Fuel Cell Vehicles VS Battery Powered Vehicles

Comparason

The picture on the left illustrates the difference between Pure hydrogen vehicles and Pure Battery powered vehicles and the optimal mergence between these two technologies.

Battery vs. Hydrogen: Hydrogen as an energy storage medium is the most efficient battery on a weight basis. A Hydrogen system, containing 5 Kg of hydrogen, can store up to 84kWh of useful electrical energy and weighs approximately 190 kg. The Tesla's 53kWh battery pack weighs 450 kg and releases a usable 45kWh or 8.4kg per kWh. To replace the 190 kg hydrogen drive system with batteries, the replacement battery pack would have to weigh 790 kg! The weight savings translate into better performance and greater range.

• Fuel Cells : 960W/kg

• Li-ion Batteries : 360W/kg
