Elding

eldingWithin the Smart-H2 project of “Vistorka Ltd” in Iceland, Icelandic Hydrogen played a major role in designing and installing the first fuel cell system in a commercial sea-going vessel in the world . The fuel cell system generates electricity by converting the hydrogen stored on-board under pressure into 48 V DC battery package and together the fuel cell and the battery system act like a hybrid system whereby the fuel cell generates the base load while the batteries provide the energy needed for the spikes and extra demand for shorter periods.

The hydrogen is generated from renewable resources in Iceland in a hydrogen refueling station and then transported to the harbour site. At the herbour site there is, Icelandic Hydrogen build a refueling station for the ship which works like a conventional hydrogen refueling station for H2-vehicles.
